US Navy SEALS Rescue Captain Philips From Somali Pirates
Excellent news for Easter Sunday.
US Navy SEAL snipers based aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Bainbridge have today rescued Captain Richard Philips of the container ship Maersk Alabama.
During the rescue operation, three of the four Somali pirates that had been holding Captain Philips hostage since the 8th April went to meet their maker! The fourth is being held by the Americans.
Well I suppose three out of four was not a bad result - maybe they can go for 100% result next time.
For too long pirates have been able to operate practically with impunity around the Horn of Africa disrupting world trade and increasing shipping rates and insurance premiums.
Warships from umpteen different nations including our own are now deployed in the Red Sea to “protect” merchant shipping. Until now they have been frankly about as much use as a chocolate teapot.
Whilst the different governments twitter on about interpretation of International Law and Rules of Engagement, a handfull of rag tag Somali chancers in a clapped out fishing boat can make our and other governments look like a bunch of fuck wits.
Lets put it in basic simple English so our dear leaders can understand - These pirates are outlaws - that means they operate outside the law - that means the usual International Laws do not apply to them.
The Somali coastline should be divided into areas to be patrolled by a specific Navy. Each Navy to be allowed to stop and search any craft entering their patrol area. Any craft refusing to stop or allow it’s self to be searched by a naval vessel to be considered hostile and open to immediate engagement without further recourse.
The only way to fight fire is with fire.
Great Britain - Laughing Stock of The World (Again!)
Once again our country finds itself the laughing stock of the world!
The latest slap in the face for common sense comes with the news that Binyam Mohamed, who was born in Ethiopia but given asylum here on humanitarian grounds, has returned to the UK after being incarcerated in Guantanamo Bay and now intends to sue our government.
To add insult to injury his legal fees will be funded by the dear old British tax payer no doubt to the tune of several hundred thousand pounds.
Mohamed was arrested on terrorist charges trying to leave Pakistan for London after he had previously been receiving military training at a terrorist camp in Afghanistan.
Can anyone explain how a “penniless” refugee working as a cleaner with a self confesed drug habit could afford an air fare to Afghanistan? Why would anyone voluntarily go to Afghanistan?
On release from Guantanamo Bay this individual should have had his British asylum status cancelled immediately and been placed on the first available flight to Addis Ababa.
He should not be an unwanted burden on the British tax payer for years to come.
It is high time the British Government respected the views of the vast majority of their law abiding citizens and put an immediate end to this sort of nonsense.
If Britain extends the hand of friendship to a genuine refugee or asylum seeker they shoud have respect for this country and it’s Laws. There should be a zero tolerance policy.
If a guest in our country chooses not to abide by our Laws then there should be no long debates, endless appeals etc just a swift deportation back to their country of origin.
The Binyam Mohamed farce coupled with the British Government being forced to pay damages of several thousand pounds to Abu Qatada at the behest of the European Court of Justice is handing votes to the BNP on a plate.
The BNP has recently won a seat at a council bye election in Swanley, Kent - a council seat that had been held by Labour solidly for 40 years.
Unfortunately, in my view, the BNP will continue to grow in popularity all the time the mainstream parties and especially Labour are seen to be ineffectual in dealing with the likes of Mohamed and Qatada.
Snouts in the trough!
Once again our British MP’s are showing their true colours! One rule for them and another for the rest of us.
This week it has come to light that Labour Minister Jacqui Smith has been claiming £ 116000 in housing allowances whilst lodging with her sister in London. Her husband is raking in another £ 40000 as her assistant. Nothing like keeping it in the family!
Whilst this arrangement is technically within the rules of the House of Commons, you have to ask yourself the question, who made the rules? The MP’s themselves of course - no surprises there.
I imagine 90% of the British general population could only dream of earning £ 40000 a year let alone £ 100000 plus yet with over 2 million unemployed, Jacqui Smith sees no problem with her cosy arrangement.
I say shame on you.
Any died in the wool trade unionist or Labour voter has surely had their eyes well and truly opened now.
What’s got my goat in the British press today?
Reading a paper is a dangerous pastime and not good for my blood pressure!
A number of articles are worthy of comment…
For starters Mandy Mandelson trying to cosy up to the Chinese sitting at a desk with the Union flag upside down! Every time I see or hear the little snake (sorry I couldn’t help myself) by blood begins to boil. What is someone who has been forced to resign from office not once but TWICE still doing in British politics? Enough said.
Local councils riding rough shod over the people they are supposed to SERVE….
Hull City Council - shame on you! A traffic warden employed by Hull City Council gave a £ 70 ticket to a motorist who was trying to give her nine month old baby daughter an inhaler for breathing difficulties and ordered her to move on. Surely some common sense and compassion should have been exercised here?
Sunderland City Council - shame on you too! A resident was threatened with a £ 2500 fine for flying the ST GEORGE’S FLAG to welcom home his two sons who had been serving in the military. The Council later backed down when they realised they were acting illegally.
Anyone should have the right to fly our country’s flag.
Jeremy Clarkson v Gordon Brown
The British tabloids favourite villain (and source of thousands of column inches every year), Jeremy Clarkson, is in the news again this week after another of his outspoken comments.
During an Australian TV broadcast he described our dear Prime Minister Gordon Brown as a ” one eyed Scottish idiot “, who, he then went on to say ” keeps telling us everything’s fine and he’s saved the world “.
Whilst I in no way condone the reference to Gordon Brown’s physical disability, I don’t have a problem with the rest of Clarkson’s comments.
He would appear to me to be merely stating the facts as he sees them and as far as I know, when I woke up this morning, people in Britain are still allowed the right of free speech!
He is Scottish and he is an …….
How can everything be fine when over 350 companies in the UK are closing down EVERY DAY?
The British economy is in free fall and Brown has no clue on what to do next. Instead of getting a grip with the problems here, our great leader is wandering around the world playing at being a Statesman (and no doubt collecting chapters for his memoirs which will no doubt be published within a year of him losing the next election…..)
Gordon Brown has been an MP for over 25 years and anyone who has been in politics that long should be able to take criticism from the likes of Jeremy Clarkson without a media furore.
This post, like all my posts contains my personal views. You are welcome to post any comments in favour or against but please keep them clean!
Welcome to my Blog
Welcome to my blog!
Please allow me to introduce myself…..
I am a forty something year old, white, professional, married male with a two year old son living in the South of England.
In fact in the days before our country was hijacked by the PC brigade, I would probably be described as a WASP - White, Anglo Saxon, Protestant.
I am not (and never have been) a member of any political party or trade union and I was educated in a State school.
Having lived and worked overseas for a number of years I am very tolerant towards other races and religions.
I have entitled this blog ” Spitting Nails ” because that is what I invariably find myself doing nowadays when I pick up a newspaper or watch a TV news report!
It is my belief that the average British man (or should that be person!)’s voice is no longer heard and our political masters in central government and local councils ride rough shod over us.
Through this blog, I will post my personal views on events in Britain that are currently causing me to ” spit nails “ and would invite readers to comment, whether you share my ideas or not.
Happy reading
